Or Gnostic ?

Regards,

David Arbucklebucklehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18200831482866604243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6536854065433425156.post-673929370283122852007-06-26T14:24:00.000-07:002007-06-26T14:24:00.000-07:00That is certainly an answer to the question which ...That is certainly an answer to the question which I asked, but it occurs to me that I really did not ask the right question. What I really should have asked is what you take Noffke to mean by that claim at the beginning of his review.gdelassuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11107851777800250317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6536854065433425156.post-85941546552664132072007-06-26T13:21:00.000-07:002007-06-26T13:21:00.000-07:00My opinion is that all the apocryphal texts tell u...My opinion is that all the apocryphal texts tell us something about early Christianity - exactly what that is and how we get at it is the big question. It is the same question that we have with the canonical materials, although scholars do not like to admit this generally because of the "sacredness" of the canonical texts and the "authority" they have for Christianity. All of our texts are theological - written to tell a theological story, even when they report to tell us "history." This is where I start with my own work on any text. Where is this text positioning itself theologically, and what can it tell us about what the early Christians were thinking and doing?

What any of our texts can or can't tell us about the historical Jesus is quite another issue for me.April DeConickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06616757055618151612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6536854065433425156.post-31216178966867145582007-06-26T11:21:00.000-07:002007-06-26T11:21:00.000-07:00Would you, Dr DeConick, agree with Noffke's assert...Would you, Dr DeConick, agree with Noffke's assertion at the very beginning of the review that the Gospel of Thomas is "actually the only [apocryphal Gospel] that seems to 'hide' some keys to a better understanding of Christian origins"?gdelassuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11107851777800250317noreply@blogger.com
