Ban on Religious Books in Prisons

Now this tops my list of ridiculous legislative activities this week. Associated Press has reported that a ban on religious books is now in effect in prisons. Why? To curb terrorism. So hundreds of books on religion have been removed from prison libraries.

Do our government representatives really believe that terrorism is the result of prisoners reading religion books while incarcerated?

I guess they will just have to read _The Count of Monte Cristo_ instead.

Well there is some merit to this. Why should we allow Islamic thugs opportunity to propagandise people in prison? But the problem, perhaps, is in the ideology of classifying all religions as equivalent, and thus treating quakers as potential suicide bombers?

Or of treating all Muslim books as inciting to terrorism. Does this ban also cover scriptures? Is the Bible, or the Quran, also banned? And I was under the impression that incarceration did not negate one's right to free exercise of religion according to the first amendment.

Love the first comment.

On this ban, sounds like someone has been reading C. Hitchens...
